New Mexico Civic Engagement supports collaborative programs for youth that address their own future, not just their present. We believe that civic engagement in New Mexico must be grounded in the people, places, culture, and dynamics of our diverse state; that all citizens, youth, and elders alike, should be informed and passionate about building common good and that this can be achieved through establishing active and engaged youth / adult partnerships in communities throughout New Mexico
NMCE is a statewide service learning and community involvement program geared towards educational alternatives, charter schools, and public high schools that seek to involve youth and adults in civic affairs. The organization works to foster collaboration with other youth based groups, so as to provide a united movement for greater Youth Voice in our state. NMCE provides two annual youth leadership training sessions that include video storytelling, web site design, and local action planning. NMCE also conducts a series of legislative awareness programs showing youth how to work with local and state elected officials.
Scope of work:
UNM Service Corps members would be involved with ongoing planning, networking, and outreach initiatives. This would include but not be limited to seeking out and networking with other youth based organizations and planning, organizing, and participating in different NMCE events such as:
- A legislative roundtable and youth radio town hall
- NMCE Legislative Days in Santa Fe
- Annual NMCE Summer Institute
